Morning Glory over Allen Island
Ian McPhee Aviation
Serving Australian Soaring Since 1972
McPhee Aviation began selling gliding instruments in Australia in 1971. In the mid '70s we imported about 200 low power drain radios, introducing VHF radios to gliding in Australia. For the past 25 years we have been the principal supplier of specialised soaring instruments for Australia, including Winter of Germany and Cambridge Aero Instruments of USA. We also supply the Australian made Xcom transceiver and Mode S transponders.

Tost GmbH of Munchen wish to congratulate Ian McPhee for our most successful distributor worldwide in 2005.  For this we have presented him a certificate and a quality Uhren Leon watch with Seiko mechanism.  This award was in part due to the sale of several Tost rope recall winches for fitting to Pawnee tow plane  E-tug powered by the GM LS1 V8 automobile engine and we in Germany would like to congratulate the foresight of the Australian's involved to follow through this project which I understand is now conducting test flights.  Also our Tost safety releases were used in the Australian coal mining industry and a safety device incorporating our release was awarded the "peoples choice" (runner up overall) at the 2005 Australian coal mining industry safety seminar in Sydney.  It pleases us our gliding equipment can contributate to mining safety in Australia and in time the world it would seem.  Ian McPhee has been our dealer in Australia for over 30 years and we in Germany wish to thank Ian sincerely.

Cambridge Avionics

Cambridge Instruments
DDV 302 variometer and secure GPS logger is certainly the next generation in accuracy of varios, but you really need to fly with one to see the difference. There are 2 seaters in the eastern states (Jondaryan, Bathurst, Camden, and Bacchus Marsh) fitted with the 302 vario and you really need to make the effort and test fly with this instrument. The instrument is proving to be the best vario ever produced - but flying is believing.  For more information and prices see Cambridge site but basic price is $US2375 ($US2395 for motorglider) + Australian GST of 10%.

303 Display
Supplies GPS information in east west direction and final glide information in up/down from home screen. This unit is an alternative to 304 Pocket Nav unit. Price is US$395 + GST

304 Pocket Nav mount + Compaq Ipaq 3950 etc. + you need to buy software Soaring Navigator 11 from Cumulus Soaring or Winpilot. You can buy your mount from Cambridge OR you can buy an Australian mount for about half the price of the US units. The goose necks Cambridge use are the same Italian booms used in the MrSoaring flexible boom mics. A great source of Compaq Ipaq is Ebay at a reasonable price.

306 vario repeater display for twin seaters. Price US$525 + GST

NEW NEW

Alternate to PDA.  Dave Ellis and friends independantly of Cambridge have developed a purpose built panel display (about size of 2 large instrument holes one above the other) which does not use touch screen but buttons - thus much clearer screen.  It is designed to add to Cambridge 302 vario. For more information please go to their own web site http://www.nkhome.com/soaring/soaringindex.html and I would hope to have a demo unit this 2007-2008 season
